A state-of-the-art moving and self storage facility is coming together at 16200 E. Hickman Road thanks to U-Haul® Company's acquisition of a 69,600 square-foot warehouse that last housed a Coca-Cola® Bottling Company distribution plant.
U-Haul Moving & Storage of Waukee opened its temporary showroom in January and is currently offering truck sharing, moving supplies and U-Box portable moving and storage containers. When the property is fully repurposed, it will offer approximately 900 indoor self storage units with high-tech security features.
"Waukee is growing," said Randy Dickson, U-Haul Company of Iowa president. "We're here to meet the demand for high-quality moving and self storage services in Waukee neighborhoods."
The updating and expanding of the former Atlantic Coca-Cola® warehouse will offer customers U-Haul Remote 24/7® access to self storage; a U-Haul Re-Use center for gently used household goods and materials to be shared among the community; the Take A Box, Leave A Box program and much more.
"Rather than build from the ground up, we are pleased to be repurposing an existing facility to benefit the city," Dickson said. "This project meets our sustainability initiatives and will help diminish our carbon footprint. We are looking forward to being part of this community for years to come."
Dickson will maintain a staff of 10 Team Members when the facility is fully operational. U-Haul will look to hire locally to promote job growth within the Waukee community.
The recent acquisition of the Coca-Cola property was driven by U-Haul Company's Corporate Sustainability initiatives: U-Haul supports infill developments to help local communities lower their carbon footprint. Our adaptive reuse of existing buildings reduces the amount of energy and resources required for new-building materials and helps cities reduce their unwanted inventory of unused buildings.
