U-Haul® will soon offer a contemporary self storage facility at 1975 W. North Ave. thanks to the acquisition of the former Jewel-Osco® corporate offices. U-Haul acquired the two-building complex on Feb. 16.
U-Haul Moving & Storage of Melrose Park currently has 924 self storage rooms available for rent at affordable price points. Customers can also take advantage of truck and trailer sharing, moving supplies, towing equipment and more.
Once the 118,166 square-foot space is renovated, it will offer about 1,300 self storage units with high-tech security features and indoor climate-control and heating options. U-Haul Remote 24/7® access, the Take A Box, Leave A Box® program and much more will also be available on the 5.17-acre lot.
"We've been looking to expand in this area, and we're excited to bring our self storage product to Melrose Park," stated Benjamin Shock, U-Haul Company of Central Chicago president. "We'll be providing a much-needed service while also offering employment opportunities at our new facility."
Shock expects to hire a staff of 25 or more Team Members when the facility is fully operational. U-Haul will look to hire locally to promote job growth within suburban Chicago communities.
The recent acquisition of the Melrose Park facility was driven by U-Haul Company's Corporate Sustainability initiatives: U-Haul supports infill developments to help local communities lower their carbon footprint. Our adaptive reuse of existing buildings reduces the amount of energy and resources required for new-building materials and helps cities reduce their unwanted inventory of unused buildings.
"Reuse is extremely important to U-Haul and this community," Shock said. "Chicagoland takes great pride in its history and ability to adapt to change. By repurposing vacant buildings, we are following that model and preserving the future through green initiatives. This is a huge part of our success and allows us to become part of many vibrant neighborhoods across Chicagoland."
