Public Storage purchased the headquarters of BoatUS in Alexandria, VA, for $13.7 million. The 7.3-acre site at 880 S. Pickett St. includes a 93,000 square-foot flex-industrial building.
It is not yet known if Public Storage plans to develop the property as self storage. The site is part of Alexandria’s Eisenhower West Small Area Plan, whose goal is to change the corridor from mostly industrial to mixed use in the next 30 years.
BoatUS, which employs 609 people at its headquarters and also has 24-hour dispatch centers in California and Florida, will leave the current HQ in mid-2018 for a 63,000-square-foot site on Port Royal Road in Springfield, VA. Transwestern brokered the deal on behalf of the seller, Indian Creek Co. LP.
