West Lafayette residents and Purdue students have called on the U-Haul store at 1090 Sagamore Parkway W. to meet their DIY moving needs since 1977.
Until recently, U-Haul Moving & Storage of West Lafayette lacked the space to expand its operation and provide self storage. But thanks to the recent acquisition of a 2.84-acre abutting property, U-Haul® is adding approximately 41,400 square feet of outdoor drive-up self storage.
"We haven't had a self storage footprint in West Lafayette," said Anthony Jones, U-Haul Company of Central Indiana president. "We will be adding about 650 storage units between the abutting property and an additional building that is currently under construction."
U-Haul acquired the former A+ Storage facility on May 2 and drive-up storage is now available. The new building under construction will be completed this fall and meet customer demand for indoor climate-controlled rooms.
"People expect U-Haul to be a one-stop shop, so this expansion is very important," Jones stated. "This is a win-win for the community and the Purdue students who need and expect quality self storage options as they return to campus."
Jones added that the expansion project will lead to several new positions at the store, and U-Haul will look to hire locally to promote job growth within West Lafayette.
Acquisition of the A+ Storage facility was driven by U-Haul Company's Corporate Sustainability initiatives: U-Haul supports infill developments to help local communities lower their carbon footprint. Our adaptive reuse of existing buildings reduces the amount of energy and resources required for new-construction materials and helps cities reduce their unwanted inventory of unused buildings.
