Three acres of property in Travis, recently purchased for $4 million by a global investment group, will soon become a more than 200,000-square foot self storage facility, according to the realtor who brokered the deal.
"Staten Island's biggest self storage facility is being built in Travis," said Michael Schneider, broker/owner of the New Dorp-based Schneider Realty Services, the real estate broker for the land purchase.
The facility will be built at 260 and 266 Wild Ave. in Travis, which is currently vacant land. Once built, it will be located behind a strip of three hotels and LA Fitness.
Of the purchase, Schneider said: "This is a high-end investment fund with interest in Staten Island."
The land sale is just another sign of the many off-Island investors seeking properties in the borough as large-scale development -- including the NY Wheel and Empire Outlets -- takes place on the North Shore waterfront.
Schneider also recently brokered another property deal involving the $6 million sale of a commercial strip in St. George. The property, which includes the former Karl's Klipper, is about to be purchased by a global investor and transformed into a hotel.
While that transaction is still in contract, it's expected to close soon, said Schneider.
